Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.

Philippians 1:27

Recently, I read the story about a senior church leader at one of America’s most prominent evangelical megachurches having to step down following accusations of alleged sexual misconduct by making unwanted advances to junior church staff members. Throughout history, the lack of Godly conduct is prevalent in all walks, careers and professions in life. Words, Actions, Attitudes and Advances take on many different Shapes, Forms and Sizes.

The Apostle Paul reminds believers in the verse above to “Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”

This simply means to remain faithful, steadfast, resolute, firm and unshakable for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The way we live our life and “conduct” ourselves in our daily walk with the Lord will have a direct impact and influence on our effectiveness of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples for His Kingdom.

Paul reminds us to “Stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” Wow, what a powerful reminder!

I encourage and remind each of us of the words of Solomon: “Above all else guard your heart, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs 4:23

Our conduct flows out of our hearts. Therefore, above all else guard your heart with all diligence so that you can be found worthy of the upward call which is in Christ Jesus.
