“Follow me, as I follow the example of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 11:1
As a child, I use to play a game called “Simon Says.” I’m sure many of you played that game as well. A leader would stand up in front of a group of kids or adults and do certain movements or gestures that you had to follow or imitate to a tee.
However, the leader would try to trick you into not following the exact movements he or she was leading others to do, and if they could trip you up, you were disqualified from the game.
Sadly, we live in a culture today where leaders are not authentic. Some seek to trip you up by lying, being deceptive, not following through with what they say, or even asking you to do something or say something that isn’t morally right or honoring to God. Their walk doesn’t line up with their talk.
In the verse above, the Apostle Paul says, “Follow me … as I follow the example of Christ.”
Paul is not trying to trip us up, not at all. His desire is that we imitate him, [because] he is imitating the character and conduct of Jesus Christ.
I remind you to be that kind of leader to others. Lead with the character, conduct and integrity of Jesus Christ – so that others will follow you, as you are following the example of Christ Jesus. Be that kind of example.
