Get Dirty

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin.
Psalm 51:2
I was recently at my niece Aria’s first birthday party and to celebrate, they got her a cake, stripped her of her clothes, put her in the kids chair and let her go to town on that dessert. As she discovered what it was, she started eating and getting messy and then of course, getting everything messy. It was so much fun to watch her in that moment.
As a kid, I remember going outside to play and having the greatest time getting dirty, getting muddy, not a care in the world.
As a parent, I also remember watching Sarah getting dirty and thinking, “those stains aren’t going to come out” or “she’s going to need one heck of a bath tonight.”
But recently, I’ve been thinking about the dirt and the mud, and the messy moments we all experience in our lives. We all have them. There’s not one person I’ve met who hasn’t gone through stormy seasons.
You might be going through a messy season of life right now.
But the good news is that it is in the dirt and mud and the mess that God does his best work. Jesus told us that those messy moments would come but that he was the one who would help us overcome.
“In this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” – John 16:33
Jesus says for us to be of good cheer in the muddy times of life because HE HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD.
Rest in that today as you go through those messy moments. Cling to the one that has overcome all that we go through in this world. He is worthy of our praise.
