21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man. 22 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

1 Corinthians 15:21-22

The Second Adam

In 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, Paul continues his exposition of the positive effects of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and our subsequent resurrection.Paul pulls our story back to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden as described in Genesis 3. Just as death, sin, and evil came through a man: ADAM, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man: Jesus. Adam is our first ancestor, so everyone who is physically born of Adamwill taste death. This is every human on planet earth. There is no one exempt from the DNA of sin that has been passed down from generation to generation. We stand guilty before God because of our sinful nature and how that rebellion against God manifests itself.Yet, our good news is that everyone who is spiritually re-born in Christ will live. Every person who has trusted in Jesus Christ is no longer united with the sin of Adam but instead are united with the righteousness of Christ. We are either bound to Adambybirth or bound to Jesus by re-birth by faith. Adam was the original representative of God on earth, who was made in the image of God, to represent Him to the world and participate in His purposes. But Adam chose selfishness and committed cosmic treason against God. Jesus serves as the second Adam, the one who is God's perfect representative who does not lead us into destruction, but into everlasting life.To whom's destiny are you bound? Adam's or Jesus's?May we to turn from our sinful nature and trust in the perfect, sinless, Second Adam, Jesus Christ.
