16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. -- James 1:16-17

The Father of Lights (James 1:16-17)

Today, we continue our journey word by word, verse by verse through the book of James.

James 1:16-17 highlights God's character as the source of every good and perfect gift, who is unchanging!

James has been making the argument that God is not the source of temptation but instead he is the source of every good and perfect gift! We must not ascribe temptation to God. Instead we ascribe every good and perfect gift to God!

James describes God at the Father of Lights! He is the source and sustainer of everyone and everything!

He made the great lights:
'His faithful love endures forever'. -- Psalms 136:7

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in him. -- 1 John 1:5

James then goes on to describe God as one who does not change like shifting shadows.

"For I, the Lord, do not change..." -- Malachi 3:6

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. -- Hebrews 13:8

Sisters and brothers, may we rejoice today that our God, our creator does not tempt us towards evil but instead is the giver of every good and perfect Gift and he will never change.
