A Humble Heart

I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.

Isaiah 66:2

A Humble Heart by Kevin Burrell

Our society, the culture we live in today lacks a heart of humility. It is rarely honored or even talked about anymore. Personal successes, achievements, status, material possessions, financial gain, educational accomplishments and even spirituality maturity can be driving forces behind pride and not displaying a heart and life that is humble.

Let me be clear, there is nothing wrong with any of the lists above; however, when those things come in between having a humble heart, a contrite heart and a living a life of humility then pride becomes preeminent in our lives, and it is pride that God hates. God cannot and will not use a prideful heart. Jesus said it this way...

“For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.” Mark 7:21-22

Solomon said—A prideful heart goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23

So today, I remind and encourage each you, above all else, place a guard around our heart. To guard your attitude, your character and your conduct. To display a heart of humility. Being humble. To consider others more important than self. To take on the very form of a servant by serving others—not just being served.

Because in the end: The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17
