When our son, Zach, was just a small child crawling around on the floor, there came a day when my wife and I leaned down in front of him and invited him to walk towards us. We didn’t pull him or guide him. Quite honestly, we didn’t even touch him. We simply stretched out our hands and arms towards him, encouraging him and inviting him to come to us. He had to make the decision to take that first step and come to us. We were waiting for him. It was never a demand; rather, it was simply an invitation.In a very similar way, Jesus does the same thing. In the verse above, it’s an invitation, not a demand for us to “come” to Him. In verses 28-30 Jesus says three things very clearly, “Come, Take, Learn” — when we are tired, weary, stressed, burdened, laboring under pain, sin, legalism, doubt, fear or simply burned out in life. And what is His promise if we accept His invitation? He will give us rest! Rest mentally, physically, relationally, professionally, emotionally and spiritually.I’m not sure what trial, burden, hurt or demand that is weighing you down today. However, I encourage you to accept the invitation of Jesus and “Come to Him.” Surrender everything that is weighing you down. Take Him up on His invitation and cast all your cares on Him, because He cares about every single detail of your life. He created you. He loves you unconditionally, and He desperately seeks to care for you. Like my wife and I did many years ago as young parents, Jesus has His arms and hands stretched out, open wide, inviting you to “Come”~ not to the world, but to Him.
