“Then Jesus asked His disciples, “But who do you say I am?”

Throughout life we are required to answers questions. Whether it’s by our parents, our coaches, or in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, the company, team or organization we are employed by. The fact is we will be faced with countless questions throughout our lifetime. How we respond will determine whether we answer correctly or incorrectly.In Matthew Chapter 16 Jesus pivots in His ministry. He asked each one of His disciples a defining question consisting of seven words. Each of them were confronted with this life-changing question from Jesus. It was a personal question, not to the group as a whole, but to each individual one of them. Read them for yourself. Here it is:“But who do you say that I am?”Eleven of the 12 disciples did not immediately respond. It’s as if they froze. We are not told why. There is no mention on record as to why. However, one replied immediately. His name is Simon Peter and here is what he said:“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Peter risked everything. He didn’t hold back. He stepped up, he stepped out and “The Rock” nailed it. Today, we too are each confronted with this very same question. Listen closely; it is one thing to “Know About God” . . . However it is entirely something different to “Know God.” The stakes are high. Where you spend eternity hinges on Jesus' question, to you and to me.Ponder the following two questions. Chew on them over and over again. Think long and hard about your answers, because they demand an answer. Here they are:
- “To You, Who is Jesus?”
- When you kneel before Almighty God one day face to face, and if He were to ask you; “Why should I let you into heaven?” What will you say?
