Jerusalem, once so full of people, is now deserted. She who was once great among the nations now sits alone like a widow. Once the queen of all the earth, she is now a slave.

Consequences

Throughout history, we can recall nations, kingdoms and even people who were once great, but today have no relevance at all. Names and faces immediately come to our minds of those who once enjoyed great success and influence, but now stand alone, deserted and are no more.Jeremiah, better known as the “weeping prophet,” wrote about this regarding his own city and its people in Jerusalem, all because they chose not to listen and heed the warnings. They chose to rebel. They chose to go their own way and do their own thing. They ignored the warnings of the prophet Jeremiah. They chose to reject the word of the Lord—and by doing so, they paid the consequences, being taken into Babylonian captivity for 70 years.Sin and disobedience will always carry with it the consequences to our choices. I’m reminded of an old saying: “Sin will take you farther than you want to go—keep you longer than you want to stay—and charge you more than you are willing to pay.”Don’t become what Jeremiah wrote in the verse above:“Once so full—Now deserted”“Once great—Now sits alone”“Once the queen—Now a slave”Rather...

  • Remain obedient & faithful to the Lord.
  • Develop your fellowship with God by spending time reading His word.
  • Carve out margin in your schedule and talk to Him in prayer everyday.
  • Surround yourself with godly influences and accountability partners.
  • Keep yourself in healthy, spiritual environments of growth.
  • Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength—and love your neighbor, as yourself.
