“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.”

PATIENT FAITH

Mr. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On his first trip home, having driven onto the freeway, he set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver’s seat to go into the back and make himself a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, the R.V. left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mr. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the owner’s manual that he couldn’t do this. The jury awarded him $1,750,000 plus a new motorhome. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other non-thinking drivers buying their recreation vehicles.Abraham didn’t have the option of camping in a Winnebago. However, Abraham did choose to live in a tent for a while. God clearly asked Abraham to move away from the homeland he had known most of his life. God didn’t tell him where he was going, but God promised to bless Abraham with an inheritance. For a season, Abraham chose to wait on God and live in a tent. Abraham could have decided to immediately build a new home but instead choose to wait for God to lay his new foundation and design his new home.Seasons of transition can be hard. Many of us know the feeling of physically living out of a suitcase for a while. Whether we realize it or not there have also been times where we have lived out of spiritual suitcases. God often takes us through seasons of transition and perhaps you are in one now. One of the worst things we can do in those seasons is to rush ahead of God and make things happen on our own.
