Special Needs

Our Mission

Our mission is to embrace families, facilitate inclusion, and create a home here at NorthStar for every family that walks through our doors.

Overview

Our Imagine Ministry tailors Sunday mornings to fit your family’s needs. We have a lot of options available for your family from a contained alternative classroom with it’s own sensory Bible story, a buddy system in our typical environments, and a sensory room for sensory breaks throughout the morning. Whatever works best for you, works for us. We offer this for all ages through high school. For adults with special needs we have a Sunday small group that meets at our 9:30 service.

When you arrive, just pull in to our first parking lot as a first time guest. Our volunteer team will be happy to show you where to go! Or if you’d like to register below, I will give you a call and share all the information you need to make showing up on your first Sunday a breeze! I can also send you the appropriate social story, Meet Your Leader flyer, and pictures of where your child will be if you register below prior to attending!

Room Environments

Birth - 5th Imagine Classroom

9:30 & 11:00AM

Located in Compass, our Birth-5th Imagine classroom offers a sensory Bible story, toys and sensory activities that go along with the morning’s lesson, as well as caring classroom leaders who enjoy getting to know and spend time with your children.

Buddy System and Sensory Room

9:30 & 11:00AM

Our sensory rooms (one for kids and one for students) provides a “break room” for kids/students in our special needs ministry during the service hour in case any portion of our programming leads to overstimulation or frustration. Our multi-sensory environments are offered at both hours as well as our buddy bins that are assigned specifically to a child filled with materials such as pill box schedules, fidget toys, and more to take to class. Our Buddy System takes place in our NorthStar Kids and 678 environments. Your child will participate in these environments along with their peers.

Youth Imagine Classroom

9:30 & 11:00AM

Our Imagine Youth classroom is located in our True North building along with the Middle and High School environments. It offers a sensory wall as well as the capability to create an entire sensory environment with blackout curtains, a LED bubble tube, and a galaxy star projector. In this class, we also offer a sensory Bible story in an environment that caters specifically to Middle and High School students.

Adult Sunday School Classroom

9:30AM

*Ages 18 and older*

Located in True North, our Gather ministry is an adult small group for individuals with special needs. In this group, we dive deeper into the Bible and talk about Christian leadership, serving, our spiritual gifts, and more. Our mission is to create community and friendship for adults with special needs in a Spirit-filled environment.
